SPLIT SPHYNX

 - is a painting exhibition by the Split academic painter Vendi Borović - acrylic on canvas, jute and carton using Split's Peristil sphynx as a theme.

The name SPLIT SPHYNX incorporates a word play with the word SPLIT having a ambivalent meaning. Besides being the name of the town from which the sphynx comes from, it also means split as a adjective, and the Peristil sphnyx has a crack right down it's middle...

With it's visual arts language resting on the tradition of American abstract expressionism of the 40's and 50's of the last century, introducing the figurative motif of the sphnyx as somewhat of a extension proving the universality of the visual art gesture.
